[CIVIL] What do the components of Plate Member force mean?

Question

What do the components of Plate Member force mean?

Answer

The meaning of the member forces from the analysis of the plate element is as follows.

When the element's local axis is set as shown in the following figure:

Fxx Tension/Compression force in the local x-direction. Corresponds to the axial force Fx of the beam element.
Fyy Tension/Compression force in the local y-direction.
Mxx Bending moment in the local x-direction. Corresponds to the bending moment My of the beam element.
Myy Bending moment in the local y-direction.
Vxx Shear force in the x-direction. Corresponds to the shear force Fz of the beam element.
Vyy

Shear force in the y-direction.

The structural behaviors in the y direction such as Fyy, Myy, Vyy are result components that cannot be expressed in beam elements. Therefore, if the structural behavior in the y-direction needs to be checked, then plate modeling is recommended.
