Can we model tapered sections using plate elements?
Answer
In a Beam element, we can define variations in cross-sectional size, whereas in a Plate element, we cannot define variations in thickness.
Therefore, at sections where the thickness varies, the element should be subdivided and the information regarding the variation in thickness should be provided as input.
Note that in Midas FEA, the variation in thickness can be defined as a function for Plate elements.
