[CIM/Infor-Base] What is Rigid Path?

Question

What is Rigid Path?

Answer

A Rigid Path is a feature in CIM that is designed to be recreated in higher modes as a straight line that maintains a specific length.

Rigid Path?
: It is a path defined by one Constraint Point or Plane. Only straight lines can be generated, and the unique feature is that the length of the path is fixed.

Example of applied structure is Precast Girder (PSC Beam / PF Beam…) etc.

Tips

In the example shown in the figure below, it is a path that can be created by referencing one Constraint Point to the Default Main Path or additional Main Paths created by default in the Assembly Unit Mode. In this case, the layout created in the Base Mode follows the Default Main Path, and the Rigid Path created based on the assigned Constraint Point is naturally linked to it.

Info

Now, let me introduce the definition method and usage of the Rigid Path using an example. The purpose of this explanation is to describe the defining method of the path and to understand the differences in the results generated when the Curve Library assigned to each path is assigned to the layout.

1. Input and Alignment Assignment of Rigid Path

Base > Library > Assembly > Create
- Name : Rigid Path

Assembly Unit > Constraint Entity > Space
- Space (Connected-1)
- Unit Length : 25.0m / OK(Check)

Constraint Entity > Point > Point
- Location : 12.5m / OK( Check )

Constraint Entity > Path > Rigid Path
- Check by Point in Reference location and use the mouse to select Mid Point (12.5)
- Coincident Point > Distance from ref. : Input -12m
- Length between coincidence : Input 24m
- Extra length, Start and End : Input 0.5m
- Offset (UCS-Y) : Input 5m / OK( Check )

Assign Library > Curve
- Constraint Path : Select Rigid Constraint Path
- Select the created Rigid Path using the mouse
   / OK( Check )

Figure. 5 Alignment Allocation of Rigid Path

When the Rigid Path is assigned to a layout, it finds the position of the Constraint Point (or Constraint Plane), and based on the defined Property, finds two points that maintain the set length (Coincidence Length: 24m) from the Point and connects them with a straight line to create a Constraint Path.

Note that if the length of the alignment is less than the Coincidence Length, the path cannot be created because a matching value cannot be found on the curve alignment.

The Rigid Path is a Constraint Path that is used when assigning an object whose vector changes, such as a PSC Beam Bridge, that must maintain its length despite changes in the alignment.
