Question
How to view/check Center of mass and Center of rigidity in the model?
Answer
Specify the method of calculating Story Center and story stiffness center, which will be used to calculate Eccentricity Ratio.
From the main menu select Structure > Building > Control Data > Control Data.
For those buildings, with unsymmetrical floor stiffness, the center of mass and center of rigidity do not coincide. Certain building codes, require minimum criteria for these eccentricity to be considered and hence computation of center of rigidity is needed for multistory-building design-eccentricity requirements. As a function of structural properties, Center of rigidity is independent of loading. The user has to specify the load cases for which the eccentricity has to be considered. Each of these load cases is assumed to be parallel with GCS X, Y axes. The stiffness is also calculated on the basis of load cases, which are not parallel with X, Y axes in which cases a warning message is generated. X-Directional Load: Select a load case, which will be used to calculate the story stiffness center relative to Y-axis. Y-Directional Load: Select a load case, which will be used to calculate the story stiffness center relative to X-axis.
During analysis, Midas automatically calculates this coordinate for each floor diaphragm. Check or modify the story eccentricities of a building structure in a spreadsheet format table. For eccentricity ratios, Story Center for Eccentricity Ratio must be defined in Building Control Data. Center of rigidity and center of mass are then displayed From the main menu select Result > Tables > Result Tables > Story > Story Eccentricity…
