What is the covering thickness in the design?

 

Answer

The cover thickness applied in the program during design is the distance to the center of the main rebar.

1. dT, dB(Beams and Columns)

1) dT : The distance from the center of the main reinforcement to the top surface of the section (cover thickness) for the upper section.

2) dB : The distance from the center of the main reinforcement to the bottom surface of the section (cover thickness) for the lower section.

3) If not entered by the user, dT and dB use values of D/10 (1/10 of the greater of D and H for columns), with a minimum value of 6.35cm (2 inch) and the maximum is 7.62cm (3 inch).

2. de, dw(Walls)

1) de : The distance from the center of the main reinforcement to the top surface of the section (cover thickness) for the upper section.

2) dw : The distance from the center of the main reinforcement to the bottom surface of the section (cover thickness) for the lower section.

3) If not specified by the user, for walls, de and dw are typically set to 5 cm (2 in). For integral walls, dw is calculated as T/4.
