When Axial-Shear Related Pushover Analysis Breaks

Question

When performing a Pushover analysis, the message "AXIAL-SHEAR INTERACTION DATA: ZERO!!!" appears, and the analysis is interrupted.

Answer

The message you are seeing can occur in an analysis model where shear hinges have been defined. The three main causes are as follows

1) When shear deformation is disabled for a section (Image-A)

2) When the section's shear depth is set to '0' or the section's width is set to '0' (Image-A)

3) When the shear reinforcement, such as hoops or stirrups, is set to '0' (Image-B)

Below is an example image

1) When shear deformation is disabled for a section (Image-A)

▶ Check on Properties > Section to consider the shear deformation of the section, and then perform the analysis, and it will be analyzed normally.

2)When the section's shear depth is set to '0' or the section's width is set to '0'  (Image A)

▶ Delete the member, or delete the hinge entered in the member, and the analysis will proceed normally.

3) When the shear reinforcement, such as hoops or stirrups, is set to '0'

▶ If you set the diameter and spacing of the shear bars correctly in the Modify Rebar Data dialog box and then run the analysis, the analysis should proceed normally.
