How do I apply a support settlement?



You can input settlement loads using the Settlement Load Cases feature.

First, [Load] tab > [Settlement/Etc.(Type)] group > [Settlement Group] to input the settlement location and settlement amount.

Then, you can set the settlement conditions using the Settlement Load Case feature. For more detailed information about this feature, please refer to the midas Civil online manual.

Tip. Let's look at an example where you want to apply a 10mm settlement to both the start and end points, as shown in the image below.

In this case, defining separate Settlement Groups for the start and end points will result in a displacement that is less than the desired 10mm. This is because when the Settlement Groups are different, the effect of the settlement load applied to one will cause an upward displacement of the other. In this situation, the nodes at the start and end points should be defined as a single Settlement Group in order to generate a displacement of 10mm.




Support settlement can be implemented through the Specified Displacements of Supports feature in Construction Phase Analysis.

The Settlement Group feature described above can be used to analyze point settlement loads, but it cannot be used in construction phase analysis because it is not possible to define a load group required for construction phase analysis.

To apply point settlement in construction phase analysis, use the [Load] tab > [Static Loads] > [Structure Loads / Masses] > [Specified Displ.] Specified Displacements of Supports is a function that provides forced displacements at arbitrary points, and since you can set a load group, it can be active/inactive at the desired construction stage.


If you apply Specified Displacements over and over again to restore the subsidence of a point or for other reasons, you must leave the previous displacement active in the previous construction phase and reapply the new displacement.

By default, once a Specified Displacement is active in the construction phase, it will not disappear even if it is inActive. However, this is not the case if you apply additional Specified Displacements afterward. If you inActivate a Force Displacement that was active in the previous construction phase and then activate another Force Displacement, the previous Force Displacement will disappear and the newly active Force Displacement will be applied from the initial location.
