Function
- Enter shear connector data.
- Select the element for which shear connector data will be entered and enter the required data in the dialog box, then the list of selected elements will be displayed. In midas Civil, shear connectors should be inputted by elements. Elements having different shear connectors should be inputted separately.
Call
From the main menu, select [Design] tab > [Type : Steel Composite Design] > [Design Input Data] group > [Design Parameters] > [Shear Connector]
Input
First, select the members in the model and enter the following data:
Both end parts (I & j) have the same shear connector : Check the box if the shear connector is identical for both ends i and j of an element. Once the shear connector data is entered under I tab, an identical data will be automatically entered under J tab.
- If EN 1994-2 is selected
Shear Connector Detail
Connectors : Number of shear connectors along the transverse direction
Tensile Strength : Tensile strength of Stud
Diameter : Stud diameter
Overall height : Stud height
Center-to-center : Transverse distance between studs
Spacing : Longitudinal spacing of stud
Click Apply to assign the shear connectors.
- If AASHTO-LRFD is selected
Category : Category defined by 75yr-(ADTT)SL equivalent to Infinite Life (Table 6.6.1.2.3-2)
Pitch : Pitch of shear connector
Height : Height of stud shear connector
Dia : Diameter of stud shear connector
Fu : Shear Resistance of Shear Connector
Spacing : Transverse spacing of stud shear connector
Num. of Shear Connector : Number of stud shear connector in each transverse row
Length Between Maximum Moment and Zero Moment:
For simple and for continuous spans that are non-composite for negative flexure in the final condition : The distance between
the point of maximum positive design live load plus impact moment and adjacent point of zero moment in an individual span.
For continuous span that are composite for negative flexure in final condition : The distance between the point of maximum
positive design live load plus impact moment and the center line of an adjacent interior support.
Nominal Shear Force Calculation (6.10.10.4.2) : One of the two conditions need to be selected for the calculation of the
nominal shear force, P which is applied for the verification of pitch at the strength limit state.
Click Apply to assign the shear connectors.
Shear connector information should be inputted individually for each span of the bridge since the distance between the positions of maximum moment and zero moment or adjacent interior support may differ with span.
