Question
How to add labels to various model members in CIM?
Answer
In CIM, when working in the modelling environment users often require the model information such as details of concrete members, rebars and tendon properties to be displayed for representation or even for project delivery. To achieve this, a function in CIM called Field Label is available.
The Field Label function displays the property information of members from the CIM model as a text in the base mode. This function is available in the Field sub option under the Base ribbon as shown in the image below.
Step 1 - Under the Base ribbon click on arrow pointing downwards on the Field icon.
Next, a list of sub options under Field shall be displayed. Choose Field Label as shown in the image below.
Step 2 - Under the Field sub option click on Field Label.
The properties panel displays the constraints available under the Field Label function as shown below.
In the Show Field Label sub option, In Data Group constraint - Keep the Default as All.
Let Select Custom Field Data remain default.
In Default Field Data drop down menu, all the member types shall be available to choose. We can either choose to select one independent member or all members.
Here, lets choose All.
Step 3 - Under Select Default Field Data drop down click on All.
Now, with the help of cursor scroll we can choose and select the field data of members like, concrete, steel, rebar, tendon, stiffener, and bolts. To select any particular field we use the check ON button from the same panel as shown in the image below.
Step 4 - Scroll and select all the relevant field members to be displayed as labels.
Likewise, we select fields for Rebar : Code, Rebar : Diameter, Tendon : Duct Type,
Tendon : Tendon Length.
Next, in Field Label Style, the program offers 5 different view styles pre-defined to choose the text and display style of the label as shown in the image below.
Step 5 - Click on Default Field Label Style 02
Finally, to apply and close the function click on apply as shown in the image below.
Step 6 - Click on the green tick to apply the properties and close the function.
With this the program displays a label of member information for the selected fields and member types throughout the model in the base mode of CIM, as shown below.
