Question

How can a user create a bridge alignment using a DWG file in CIM?

Answer

If your DWG alignment file contains Geographic Coordinates, then ensure to first define these in your CIM project. You can follow the instructions from this FAQ:
“How to define Geographic Coordinates in CIM project using Geodetic DB or EPSG DB options?”

Follow the steps below to create a bridge alignment using a DWG file.

Go to the Base mode of CIM.

Step 1: Under the Base ribbon, click on Layout dropdown menu and select the Create-Edit option

A Layout menu panel along with Sub Panel shall appear on the screen.

Step 2: In the Layout Manu Panel, if your DWG has Geographic Coordinates, enable the Geographic Coordinate option.

In the Sub Panel, go to Horizontal Segment tab

Step 3: Change he input method as By DWG Data option

Appearance of sub-panel shall be updated.

Step 4: On the top right corner of subpanel, select Import option

An Open File dialogue box shall appear on screen.

Step 5: Navigate to your desired file location and select the DWG file.

Step 6: Click on Open

You can see the preview of your alignment in the Preview window of Sub-panel.

Step 7: At the bottom of Menu panel click on      to model the Alignment in Base mode.

Note: Only horizontal alignment data can be imported via a DWG file. Vertical elevation profiles need to be manually defined in the Vertical Segment tab under Layout creation in CIM.

A final image of modelling window for above process is shown below:

By following these steps, users can conveniently import and model bridge alignments from DWG files directly into their CIM projects.
