How to import OBJ files into CIM?

 

Answer

Follow the steps below to import the ".OBJ" files in CIM.

 

Step 1: Click on the CIM icon located at the top-right corner

 

Step 2: Click on Import option

Step 3: Under the Import option, select the Graphics Files option

 

An Open file dialogue box shall appear on your screen.

Step 4: Navigate to your File location and select the ".OBJ" file

Step 5: Click on Open button

 

A menu panel shall appear on the left of the modelling window.

Step 6: As a reference type, select either of the following:

  • Import by reference: The file would be imported as reference, and won't be saved with CIM project file.
  • Merge to file: The file would be imported and merged with CIM project file.

Step 7: Add OBJ file name for your reference under Classification sub-section

Step 8: (Optional) Add description of your file

 

Step 9: Set the Origin point and Target Point

  • Origin Point: Main Base point for the file insertion.
  • Target Point: Target point of file insertion. The distance will be relative to the origin point.
    • For example, if Origin point is (0,0,0) m and target point is assigned as (0, 250, 0) m, then the OBJ file will be imported at 250m location in Y direction with respect to (0, 0, 0)m location.
    • If both target and origin point locations are defined as (0, 0, 0)m, then program will assign the OBJ file on the datum location itself.

Step 10: Define the Rotation Axis (optional)

Step 11: Assign the Rotation angle (optional)

Step 12: Change the Quality (optional)

Step 13: Click on    to import the OBJ file.

 

 

A result of the above mentioned process is displayed below:

 

This is how easily you can import OBJ file in the CIM project.
