Question
How to define materials in CIM?
Answer
In CIM, during setting up a new project/model users can define several materials such as Concrete, Rebars. Based
on the provision specific codes of the region/countries.
A sample of material definition is highlighted in the steps below.
Step 1 - In the Base mode of interface click Material
The properties panel displays the list of available materials.
Step 2 - From the materials define sub panel select Concrete
The material sub panel provides constraints as shown below
When defining a New material, New can be set as default as shown. Next, in the Classification panel the unique
ID and a Name can be added to the material.
Under the Elasticity Data, there are two options -
a) Define the material property values manually, like Elastic Modulus, Poisson's Ratio, Thermal Coefficient and the Weight Density in the window to input the variables.
b) Use the Database available in the program to quickly define the material properties, by activating the Use DB button.
Now, use the cursor to click and activate the database and choose the standard code from the dropdown menu as shown below
Step 3 - Activate the Use DB button and from the standard dropdown choose the code IS
Next, based on the code standard applied, from the DB choose the respective sub type as shown below.
Step 4 - In the DB sub panel from the dropdown choose M40
Now, once verified, to apply the selected material type to the project we use the apply button.
Step 5 - To apply the material type click on the green tick
The material is defined in the particular CIM model, for Concrete, with country code IS and the subgrade M40.
The newly defined materials are then added to the list of Materials in the model and can be accessed in the Work
-Tree as shown below. Similarly, material for Rebar and Steel can also be defined.
