[CIM] How to assign the Point Library directly on Layout?

Question

How to assign the Point Library directly on Layout?

Answer

Follow the steps below to assign any Point Library model directly on the layout:

For the demonstration, we've taken an example of a 30 m long curve span having T Shape pier at 20 m location.

Step 1: In the Base Mode of CIM, go to Lab ribbon

Step 2: Under the Lab ribbon, select the Assign by Layout option

A menu panel shall be displayed on the left of the modelling window:

Step 3: From the 1st drop-down menu, select the Point Library you want to place on the Layout.

[In our example, we've selected T Shape Pier point library.]

Step 4: Click on the Select Layout tab [It will turn blue, which suggests selection process is active.]

Step 5: Using the cursor cross selection, select the Layout in the modelling window

Step 6: Assign the required attributes

  • Station: Distance, at which the point library shall be located, from start of the Layout [In our case it is 20 m]
  • Rotation: Degree of Rotation required [In our case, we took 0 degree]
  • Offset: Assign Vertical and Horizontal offsets with respect to the layout line
    • [In our case, Horizontal offset is taken as 0 meter and Vertical offset is taken as -3 meter]
  • Path Axis: Horizontal and vertical path axes
    • If checked-on, the Library model will be placed perpendicular to the layout based on the vertical and horizontal path profiles.
    • [In our case, we checked-on Follow Horizontal Path Axis profile.]

Step 8: At the bottom of menu panel click on to Apply the Library on the Layout.

A final image of above mentioned process is attached below:

This is how we can easily assign the point library directly on the Layout.

Note: It is not recommended to directly assign the curve library or point library directly on the layout. For a detail explanation read the following FAQ:

Why is it recommended to not assign the Point Library directly to the Layout?
