Question
Why is it recommended to not assign the Point Library directly to the Layout?
Answer
It is not recommended to assign the Point Library directly to the Layout due to the lack of dynamic updating.
For instance, if a user assigns the Point Library using the “Assign by Layout” option under the Lab ribbon, any future changes to the layout—such as modifying alignment values, curvature, or span—will not automatically update the previously assigned Point Library. This can result in misalignment and additional rework.

On the other hand, if the Point Library is assigned within the Assembly Unit first, and then the Assembly Unit is assigned to the Layout, any changes to the alignment or span will automatically update the orientation and positioning of the Point Library elements accordingly. This ensures proper synchronization between geometry and alignment. [Refer: image-2]
Moreover, assigning the Point Library through the Assembly Unit is more efficient and flexible:
Users can quickly edit, remove, or relocate the Point Library.
It avoids the need to manually assign or reassign the Library to each pier or support location on the layout, which can be time-consuming.
The Point Library maintains a parametric relationship with the alignment, supporting automated updates and consistency across the model.
In contrast, when the Point Library is assigned directly on the layout, it becomes static—retaining the original orientation and position regardless of any alignment modifications. This limits editing capability and increases the risk of inconsistency in the bridge model.
