[CIM] How to define a sub constraint path in assembly unit library

Question

How to define a sub constraint path in assembly unit library type?

Answer

In CIM, for creating any advanced library type, such as a combination of lateral and transverse beams a function

Sub Constraint Path is available. This allows a user to add multiple objects in a single library type, with the help

of references called as path in CIM terminology. An example of defining these paths is highlighted in the steps

below.

Here, in the Assembly Unit library type, multiple Main Constraint Paths are defined. To know more about Main

Constraint Path click here

The Sub Constraint Path in assembly unit mode, provides an additional reference in modelling components like

transverse beams in conjunction with lateral girders. Steps to define a new sub constraint path are shown below.

Step 1 - In the interface, click on the arrow pointing downwards on the Point icon.

Next, a drop down menu appears.

Step 2 - Click on the Point icon.

Sub Constraint Paths can only be defined when, one or more paths are available in the assembly unit mode.

A new Assembly Unit library, shall always include a predefined path. This path is called as Default Constraint Path

in CIM terminology. In this example 2 Main Constraint Paths are defined already and 1 Default Constraint Path is

available as shown below.

Next, the Constraint Point properties appears. Here, choose 2 paths to add constraint points. The constraint

points along with the constraint paths are used to define a sub constraint path.

Step 3 - In the Constraint Path option, click Main Constraint Path

Step 4 - With cursor cross selection, select the first path

Now, in continuation provide location for the constraint points

Step 5 - In Location window, enter value as 20m

A blue filled dot (point) is displayed on the selected path, at a location of 20m from the start (0m)

To apply the command.

Step 6 - Click on the blue plus icon to apply

Repeat Step 5 and 6 for the second path. And to de-select the first selected path use cursor double click

Continue in the Constraint Point definition command.

Step 7 - Use cursor double click to de-select the previous selection of path.

Step 8 - In Location, enter value 20m

Apply the command.

Step 9 - Click on the green tick to apply the command.

Two constraint points are defined on the paths as shown

Now, to define the sub constraint path.

Step 10 - In the interface, click on the arrow pointing downwards on the Path icon.

Step 11 - From the dropdown of path, choose Sub Path.

Step 12 - In the interface, with cursor cross selection choose the constraint point on the first path

Constraint Point property highlights the selection at Start Point and End Point

Step 13 - Continue to choose the second constraint point on the second path.

Once the second constraint point is chosen, a preview of the path to be created is illuminated as shown below

Step 14 - Click on the Blue Plus icon to apply the command

The Sub Constraint Path is added, followed by the constraint points.
