[CIM] How to Extend any Edge in CIM?

Question

How to extend any edge in CIM?

Answer

Follow the steps below to extend any edge in CIM:

[Note: For demonstration purposes, we have modelled some Edges in the X-Y plane (Top plane) of CIM.]

Step 1: In any mode of CIM, go to the Edit ribbon

Step 2: Click on the Extend edge option

A menu panel will appear on the left side of the modeling window:

  • By Tool option:
Use a reference member as a tool. CIM will automatically extend your selected edge until it reaches the reference tool member.

    • Select Tool:
Use the cursor to select the reference edge that will act as the tool for extension.

    • Selection Filter:
You can choose between two options:

      • Edge: Extends an edge until it meets the selected reference edge.

      • Vertex: Extends a vertex (point) of an edge until it touches the selected reference edge.

    • Pick Target:
Hover the mouse cursor over the end of the edge and left-click to extend the line till the reference edge.

  • By Length option:

CIM extends the selected edge in the same direction as its vector(orientation), based on the given extrusion length.

    • Extension Length:
Enter the distance up to which you want to extend the selected edge.

    • Selection Filter:
You can choose between two options:

      • Edge: Extends the entire edge by the specified length in its direction.

      • Vertex: Extends the vertex (end point) of an edge by the given length in its direction.

    • Pick Target:
Hover the mouse cursor over the end of the edge and left-click to extend it by the assigned extrusion length.

This is how easily we can extend any edge with reference to any other edge/surface.
