Function
- A scale factor for moment of inertia (Iyy) about y-axis can be applied to check sectional stresses reflecting an effective width. Scale factors for the distances from the neutral axis to the top and bottom extreme fibers (z_top & z-bot) are also specified. The scale factors are applied only to stress calculations and do not affect the calculations for forces and deflections.
Call
From the main menu, select [Properties] tab > [Section Properties] group > [Effective Width]
Input
Boundary Group Name
elect a boundary group to which the scale factor will be applied.
Scale Factor is typically applied to elements in the vicinity of supports in the negative moment zones. As such, if there are no supports, no section stiffness need be reduced. This is the reason for the scale factor being related to the boundary group.
During construction stage analysis, even if a boundary group containing Effective Width Scale Factor is inactivated in a specific construction stage, Effective Width Scale Factor will be reflected until the final stage.
For the Effective Width Scale Factor for post-processing and design stress calculation, the coefficients applied to the final stage will be used.
Options
Add/Replace : Add or replace the scale factor.
Delete : Delete the scale factor.
Scale Factor
Iy Scale Factor for Sbz : Scale factor for the moment of inertia about y-axis for stress calculations
z_top Scale Factor : Scale factor for the distance from the neutral axis to the top fiber for stress calculations
z_bot Scale Factor : Scale factor for the distance from the neutral axis to the bottom fiber for stress calculations
J-END : Check on J-End to enter Effective Width Scale Factor for J-end differently from I-end. Use this function for a tapered section or even for a prismatic section when Effective Width Scale Factors at I-end and J-end are different.
