Define Construction Stage for Hydration

Function

  • Define the construction stages to analyze heat of hydration, which reflect time variant factors by activating and deactivating elements, boundary conditions and loadings relevant to each construction stage. Static load groups can be also activated or deactivated, which can be simultaneously considered in heat of hydration analysis.

Call

From the main menu, select [Load] tab > [Type : Heat of Hydration] > [Heat of Hydration Analysis Data] group > [Define CS for Hydration]

Input

Construction Stage dialog box

Add : Define and add a new Construction Stage to the stage list. The new stage is added to the end of the list.

Insert/Prev : Add a new construction stage immediately preceding the selected stage in the list.

Insert/Next : Add a new construction stage immediately after the selected stage in the list.

Modify/Show : Modify or check the data for the stage selected in the list.

Delete : Delete the construction stage selected in the list.

Close : Close the Construction Stage dialog box.

When a new construction stage is defined

Depending on the timing of the new construction stage, click Add, Insert Prev to Insert Next invoke the dialog box for Compose Construction Stage for Hydration.

Stage

Name
Enter the name of construction stage to be defined.

Initial Temperature
Initial temperature for newly activated elements at a corresponding construction stage is specified. If the initial temperature is not assigned or if it is inputted as "0"at the corresponding construction stage, then the temperature assigned to initial temperature at Heat of Hydration Analysis Control will apply. If the initial temperature is assigned then the inputted temperature will apply.

Current Stage Infomation... : Clicking the button lists nodes, elements and boundary and load groups, which can be applicable at the current construction stage.

Step

Time(hr)

You can manually enter the number of time steps and the elapsed time for each step in the construction stage. Enter the step number and cumulative time in the format provided in the example. After entering the data, click the Add button on the right, and the step number and cumulative time for each step will be displayed in the list.

The steps can also be auto generated by using the Auto Generation dialog box.

Auto Generate
To create multiple steps simultaneously, enter the total elapsed time in the "Duration" field and the desired number of steps in the "Step Number" field. Then click the Generate Steps button, and the specified number of steps will be created. The elapsed time entered in the "Duration" field (in hours) will be automatically divided equally on a logarithmic scale to populate the steps.

Duration : Duration of time to be auto generated.

Step Number : Number of steps to be auto generated.

Add : In the current construction stage being defined, specify the times subsequent to the time corresponding to the last step defined thus far, which will be added to the bottom of the list.

Modify : Modify the time of the selected step in the Step list.

Delete : Delete the selected steps from the Step list.

Clear : Clear all the steps listed in the Step to revert to the initial state.

Element tab

Activate or deactivate element groups (Structure Groups) to define the relevant elements applicable to the construction stage being defined.

Group List

It lists the predefined element groups. Click the ... button to the right to prompt Define Structure Group to add or modify previously defined element groups.

Activation

Assign relevant structure groups in the Group List, which will become active in the construction stage being defined. Click Add to activate the selected groups. Select the groups to be excluded from the activated group list and click Delete.

Boundary tab

Activate or deactivate boundary groups to define the relevant boundary conditions applicable to the construction stage being defined.

Group List

It lists the predefined boundary groups. Click the ... button to the right to prompt Define Boundary Group to add or modify previously defined element groups.

Activation

Assign relevant boundary groups in the Group List, which will become active in the construction stage being defined. Click Add to activate the selected groups. Select the groups to be excluded from the activated group list and click Delete.

Deactivation

Select relevant load groups in the Group List, and click Add to deactivate the selected groups. Click Delete to expel the selected load groups from the deactivation group list to the main Group List.

NOTE.png Boundary groups become active or inactive at the moment that the corresponding construction stage begins.

Load tab

By activating or deactivating load groups, user can specify static loads for the corresponding construction stages. The types of static loads that can be specified during heat of hydration construction stage analysis are Nodal Load, Pressure on a Solid Element, and Pretension Load in a Truss.

Group List

The list of all the predefined load groups is displayed. Click the ... button to the right to prompt the Define Load Group dialog box to add or modify groups.

Activation

Select relevant load groups in the Group List, and click Add to activate the selected groups. Click Delete to expel the selected load groups from the activation group list to the main Group List.

Active Time

Enter the time at which the loading group becomes activated in the corresponding construction stage. General static load can only be assigned in the User Step and not in either the First or the Last Step.

Deactivation

Select relevant load groups in the Group List, and click Add to deactivate the selected groups. Click Delete to expel the selected load groups from the deactivation group list to the main Group List.

Inactive Time

Enter the time at which the loading groups become deactivated in the corresponding construction stage.

NOTE.png Static load cases to be considered in heat of hydration analysis must be defined as Construction Stage Load (CS) as a load type.
