Question
Upon running the concrete column check in MIDAS Gen, some column sections are not being checked. Why is this happening and how can it be resolved?
Answer
This issue typically occurs when certain column sections have dimensions smaller than the minimum values allowed by the selected design code. As a result, the software automatically excludes these members from the design check.
Resolution Steps:
- Disable Minimum Section Size Limits: To allow the design of all sections regardless of their size:
-> Navigate to: Design > Design > RC Design > Limiting Minimum Section Size
-> In the dialog box, uncheck the options for Beam and Column under the "Consider minimum Section size Limits".
- Re-run the Design Check:
After disabling the limit, run the RC column design again. The previously skipped members will now be included in the design results.
Note: While disabling minimum section limits allows the design to proceed, it's important to verify whether the actual section sizes comply with code-based safety and constructability requirements.
