Question
How can the Bending Moment Diagram (BMD) results be viewed in either graphical or tabular format in MIDAS Gen?
Answer
MIDAS Gen provides flexible options for reviewing bending moment results, available through the Results menu. Users can choose between graphical displays, detailed views along the member length, or spreadsheet-style tables for deeper analysis.
1. Graphical View of Bending Moment Diagrams:
From the main menu select Results > Results > Forces > Beam Diagrams
Under tree menu:
# Select appropriate Load case/combination
# Select the desired internal force component (e.g., My or Mz) to visualize the Bending Moment Diagram (BMD).
# Choose desired type of display.
# Click on Apply to see the OUTPUT diagram
The desired internal force components could be separately viewed for beam, plate, truss and wall element from tree menu.
2. Detailed Member View (Force Along Length):
For a more detailed diagram showing variation along the member:
Results > Detail > Beam/Element > Beam Detail Analysis
This option displays results (including bending moments) at multiple points along the length of each member.
3. Tabular Format – Spreadsheet View:
To view internal forces and stresses in tabular form:
Results > Tables > Result Tables > Beam > Force & Stress
Select the members and load cases of interest.
Results are displayed at five key locations along each member’s length (e.g., start, 1/4, midspan, 3/4, end), allowing for a comprehensive numerical review.
Summary:
MIDAS Gen provides multiple methods to view bending moment results:
> Graphically for quick visual assessment.
> In detail along the member for engineering insight.
> And in tables for precise reporting and documentation.
