Question
How to add an offset to structural elements?
Answer
To add an offset to structural elements, define the offset distance by taking into account the sectional properties (i.e., shape) of the element. The offset represents the eccentric distance between the geometry shape (surface) used to define the structural element and the reference axis, which is where loads are applied, and results are computed. This distance can be defined using a function based on the Global Coordinate System (GCS). The direction of the offset is normal (+ or -) to the 2D element. When using a function to apply the offset, the input value acts as a scale factor that multiplies the function during calculation.
Steps to add an offset to structural elements:
Go to Mesh > Elements > Parameters > 2D > Add Offset.
